The positions over border security today, and what it should look like, provide a telling example of how much society has changed. Immigration is one of the few powers granted to the federal government. So why isn't this power being exercised? The arguments against a wall (barrier) provide an opportunity to examine the underlying ideas, and why they matter.

As we approach another year’s end, it’s time to pause and reflect for a moment on where we are, how we got here, and where we appear to be headed. Striking me most this year is the deepening division within our society. A division intensified by our political classes—groups that shouldn’t even exist in America. In fact, I’m no longer sure we are a single society. This situation cannot last.

This series about liberalism’s differences from Christian principles ends examining man’s dominion in the areas of creation, family, society, and governance. It closes with one final implication from man creating his own values.

This article builds on the previous justice and life articles. Today’s examines what we do with our life—the actions we take and how those relate to our purpose. As mentioned before actions have their root in the ideas we hold.

The prior article focused on justice. Today’s focuses on life, but not the political hype surrounding the issue. Instead it emphasizes why we have the gift of life and its implications by considering who God is and the relationship man is to have with Him, before closing with some points about how modern liberalism corrupts this view.

This next series extends the conversation begun last time. That article ended with the statement that today’s liberals are betting prosperity can only occur under government direction. Its all about achieving specific ends, ends that must be directed from the top. That is the basis for their false claim the Obama administration’s policies are responsible for this past year’s economic growth.

I wasn’t sure if this was the right time for this article. But after the left’s reporting and antics over the last couple of weeks about all that is supposedly wrong, I think we deserve a little reality. Liberals have proudly announced this last years economic growth is due to the Obama administration, and I think they are right, but not for the reasons they claim.

With the upcoming July 4th holiday, I normally write something uplifting about our country, our values, or the sacrifices made by those who made it all possible. That is the real story we need to always remember.

However, the last several weeks suggest we face a real danger.

On May 30, the Virginia Senate passed a fiscally irresponsible and immoral budget approved earlier by the House of Delegates. Budgeted expenses are projected to grow from their present $51.8 billion in 2018 to $57.0 and $58.9 billion in 2019 and 2020, single year increases of 11% and 14% respectively over present spending levels. A large part of this increase comes from an approximately $3.6 billion per year expansion in Medicaid program spending, with an accompanying false claim of moral compassion to promote the need for same. Some of this program’s expansion is to be financed by a new $600 million tax on the hospitals receiving program expenditures in return for providing Medicaid healthcare services. This article looks closer at the spending increase and compassion claim.

In doing research for my next book, I’ve been reading some post-modernist views of society. While they have many differences of opinion, one thing they all seem to agree on is a society needs to be moral to succeed. Morality is defined simply as righteous behavior. There is one very large problem with a society’s need for morality and the secularism inherent in post-modernism, God is the only source of morality. Secular societies never work as within them man turns toward himself and away from God. It doesn’t matter whether the secularist denies God outright or in some way elevates man to a point where he can justify doing whatever he wishes, the result is the same.

About Dan Wolf

Dan WolfMy goal is that my writing will help you to get started on your own journey of discovery, or help you along the way on a journey you may have already begun. Our Founders considered education, religion, morality, and virtue to be the cornerstones for any successful society. Being successful requires understanding both the languages of reason and faith; reason alone is insufficient.
